The Find - Game Design

Date

2025

Location

University College London

The Find, is an interactive game and learning tool that takes inspiration from; processes used in archeological research,
museum curation, local material histories, detectorist hobbyists, subterranean fiction, treasure hunts, sandbox
games and object based learning.

The Find focuses on the University of Nottingham’s Museum of Archeology, taking into consideration the museum space, surrounding site, local context and the university's
collection of regional artefacts.

Throughout The Find, players investigate a virtual representation of the city's caves and discover 3D scanned reproductions of artefacts from the museum collection hidden within the cave network. Players make decisions about their finds and build up their own virtual collections
encouraging them to become active participants in the museum experience.

The Find operates as a tool to access the museum's collection through alternative points of entry using interactive multimedia, mobile gaming.

This design aims to explore the potential for; cross-disciplinary collaboration, increasing engagement and
opportunities for exchange between the audience and the institution.

I investigate; gaming as a method for learning more broadly, introducing play and participation to visitor experience of the museum, and the potential for collaborative storytelling that is representative of past, present and future local communities.
