Watery Bodies

Project Type

Installation, Artist Residency

Date

2022

Location

One Thoresby Street, Nottingham

A research and development - focusing on creating costumes, votive objects and rituals. I invited the audience to participate in re-enacting / re-enlivening ancient water rituals.

This is a practice based research project exploring; rituals of care, participation, animism and experimenting with ideas about folklore, connections with land and watery bodies, environmental cultures and 'A new mode of posthuman feminist phenomenology that understands our bodies as being fundamentally part of the natural world and not separate from or privileged to it' - Bodies of Water by Astrida Neimanis, 2017

I used this as an opportunity to test the parameter's of installation, performance and participation in my practice. The audience followed a text that gave instructions for a ritual, inviting participants to interact with objects and wear costumes that I had made specifically for the installation.
