LGBT+ History Month

During my role as Artistic Programme Curator, alongside curating the gallery programme, I instigated and delivered a number of community projects.

For this project I built new partnerships with Derby Museums and the Derbyshire LGBT+ Centre to design and deliver a series of creative workshops at the centre, in response to their lack of creative provision. Through these workshops the group took writing by feminist theorist Donna Haraway, as a starting point to explore multispecies entanglement and hybrid creatures.

These ideas opened discussion around queer identity and symbolic representations of participants. The group used creative writing, collective drawing and clay modeling to create a new body of work. These works were brought together as a public exhibition and auctioned to raise money for the LGBT+ Centre.

Following the auction the audience were invited on a tour of creative and cultural spaces around Derby city centre including; an exhibition tour at Artcore Gallery, an exhibition tour at Derby Museum and Art Gallery, a visit to the LGBT+ Society at the University of Derby Student Union and ending at the spoken word and performance night 'Word Wise'.
